I can't figure out how to use the speed dialing for phone calls. I contacted HP and spent a lot of time chatting on line with a HP representative. She finally said that the speed dialing is only for faxes. Does anyone out there know how to make it dial ordinary phone calls? It works well as a fax machine and the printing is much better than I got from an older HP Fax machine. I guess I'm satisfied, but I wish I could use speed dialing for phone calls.

We bought this item through Amazon. The installation was a nightmare and a simple procedure such as loading the cartridges did not go according to the instructions. Hence, the cartridges did not align with the loading bay, then when we finally got the cartridges in the paper continuously jammed and the error would not clear. The paper tray did not feed properly and we got no use from the machine.

1 out of 5 stars HP3180 is a good door stop!   February 6, 2010

This FAX is so noisy I've had to get up in the middle of the night and unplug it. It may start it's gear eating and cycling exercise before 3:30 in the morning but since I haven't set the time of day, it must just do this to annoy me. It really does sound like it is chewing itself up and as a result, I doubt that it will last much longer. Fortunately it wasn't that expensive but this HP FAX will not be replaced with another HP product.

3 out of 5 stars Good fax, but trouble finding power cord.   February 6, 2010

It was a great fax until I misplaced the power cord. I have been completely unable to find a replacement cord thru HP or any other source online. So I am now unable to use it. Don't misplace your power cord.

Addendum - I was able to buy a new power cord and power supply online for about $20. Now I notice that it lacks a power button. So this good for a user who wants a fax on all the time. It is not ideal for the home user who occasionally sends and receives a fax.
