Died After 2 DaysSeptember 5, 2010 Nita Werner 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well I waited a long time to go to the dark side and buy a Kindle. It arrived on Friday and when I tried to use it for the 1st time today (Sunday), it froze up and I had to hold the power button down to get it to shut off (per the troubleshooting page). Now it won't turn back on. Called Customer Service and they very quickly told me that they were sending out a new Kindle and I should receive it within 2 days. Seemed odd that they would immediately ship out a new one w/o waiting for the broken one to arrive. After reading the reviews it looks like they have MANY quality issues with this new version. I told them that I really hoped the new one lasted longer than 2 days and perhaps they might want to work the bugs out of something rather than shipping defective product.
what serviceSeptember 5, 2010 dudeguy 0 out of 10 found this review helpful
After 2 weeks of waiting for this item to be delivered, I discover it has not even been shipped yet. It looks like the Nook is more attractive simply because I can run down to the book store and get one. It is impossible to read a book on a device that will not be shipped to you. Further upon follow up there is no phone number or recourse except to cancel the item. I am really glad I paid for the expedited shipping. The service from the store has been very poor. If there are going to be delays in shipping the item perhaps and email explanation.
not worth the priceSeptember 5, 2010 Ana Torres(West Orange, NJ USA) 1 out of 10 found this review helpful
Received my 3g, wifi kindle on August 30. On September 5 it stopped working. Never dropped it, always stored in my night stand drawer. Returning it. I don't have many positive things to say about this product. My daughter looked at it and thought it "sucked." For a little bit more, I can buy an Ipad.
New Kindle Better Than ExpectedSeptember 5, 2010 Michael S. Rolli 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Kindle has been even more amazing than I expected from viewing the video before ordering. This is my first e-reader and it took me several years to decide to even try one.....but I am ever glad I did. The Kindle seamlessly shifts between Wi-Fi and 3G depending upon location. I have yet to be in a location where I did not have fast connection speed. Weekend Wall Street Journal downloaded in about 10 seconds, was easy to navigate, and the photos were much better resolution that you see in the print version! Purchased two new books, both at significantly lower price than hardback, and each downloaded much faster than the 1 minute promised. Also downloaded 6 classics which were free in about 3 minutes total. The contrast of the new e-ink is nearly identical to that of most print books, except of course now i can change the font size, line spacing, etc. Having instant access to the Oxford dictionary, without losing your spot, is just unbelievable. The smaller size, weight and thickness make the kindle very comfortable to hold for long periods of time. Despite a few reservations based on comments of other customers, I also purchased the Amazon leather cover with built-in reading light. The cover holds the Kindle securely and the light is effective, quite bright and illuminates the entire screen in a full dark room. I really appreciate that the cover keeps the entire unit thin and lightweight, plus no batteries ever needed for the light. The Kindle is easy to use right out of the box. I encountered one small problem I could not resolve via the manual. Reached out to Kindle customer service via cell callback. The CSR could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Had the issue resolved in under 5 minutes.
My only suggested improvements would be to use a better grade of leather, providing a softer feel, on the cover (after all, it is $50), and work to make all published books available on Kindle.
Restocking FeeSeptember 5, 2010 L. Matsumoto 1 out of 12 found this review helpful
i submited a written review about how this was a gift for my sister for her birthday. because her family gave her an IPAD, she decided not to keep it. went to the website to return and it said august 19 but amazon says august 13. LIES. because it was not august 13, they charged a restocking fee over 20%!!! not right. i am disappointed that amazon would do such a thing. don't like that they do not have all the reviews posted. selective reviewing? my first written review still has not posted...
