5 out of 5 stars Wow! First Kindle...   September 6, 2010

I received my kindle two days ago. I waited almost a month and I have to admit I was ready to hate it because of the long wait... Well... not only do I love my new kindle but I can honestly say it was well worth the wait. I ordered the kindle so that I could have something to read during boring meetings at work. I thought a flat electronic device would be easier to conceal than a book, especially since I bought a little case with it that makes it look like a notebook. I honestly did not believe anything could replace the feel and smell of a book in my hand. I did not think I was going to use the kindle for much more than the weekly two hour meetings we have to endure. Boy was I wrong. I have already finished two books on it.

I read the quick guide and followed the few steps to setting up the kindle the rest was quite intuitive. Everything worked as expected and some things were better than expected. The 3G network is VERY fast and efficient and the browser actually works quite well. Books download quickly as do the periodicals I read.

I am extremely pleased and can see this replacing books in my life.

4 out of 5 stars Love it, but not fair!   September 6, 2010

I've owned my Kindle for nine months now, and love it. I originally bought it for my husband, but of course, I took it over. I now have over 200 books on my kindle. It is so easy to carry, I can use it in waiting rooms, during car trips, anywhere. However, of course now that we've bought the first kindle, a new version comes out at a discount. That's not fair to customers who've already paid more money, and continue to buy new books monthly. We should be given some kind of discount on books, or a certificate to Amazon. But, I still love, love, love my kindle.

4 out of 5 stars Neat reading device   September 6, 2010

Recently got the Kindle 3 wireless edition for $139. I do not need the 3G/Whispernet option (can't think of it ever being useful).
My primary goal is to use this for reading technical manuals in pdf (yes... I'm geeky like that.. deal with it!)... and books.. especially the public domain classics. I don't intend to use this to buy ebooks and read. I prefer paperpacks for that that.
Anyway... this reader rocks for my requirements. It is fast (relative to the other eInk technology based readers out there). I had got the Sony PRS600 last year and returned it in a day... the page turns on that were painfully slow. Kindle 3 is quick enough to not be a distraction.
Go buy it.. you won't be disappointed!

1 out of 5 stars Just couldn't like the Kindle   September 6, 2010

I tried to like it, I really did. But I guess I'm too much of an Apple girl. I'm not comparing this to the iPad since they are completely different products but once I played with the iPad I think that ruined the Kindle for me.

Cons:
Mine had an 'ozone' smell I really couldn't get over, especially when plugged in. It didn't go completely away when unplugged
I felt they should have made the screen illuminate automatically with the change of lighting(at least on the $189 version)
There should be an easier way to find books
Not able to put library books on the kindle, I believe all e-reader products should have crossover capabilities
Amazon issue - not happy about the new pricing structure just because they got scared with Apple(considering the timing I'm guessing that's what happened) they shouldn't have given in to the pricing structure the publishers wanted. I have an iphone and have yet to use the ibook app

Pros:
The size
The screen is very clear and easy to read
No contracts with AT&T(even though there are still charges with Amazon that can apply)

Simple, not the longest review but once you start reading reviews I don't want to read articles but want to get to the main point
